Ingredients

Semolina/Rava( Bombay Rava) – 1 Cup
Peas – ½ Cup
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Peanuts – Around 2 tsp
Green chillies – 2 Chopped
Curry leaves – 6-8
Onion – 1 medium – Chopped
Lemon juice – 1 tsp
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt
Water - 3 cups (approx)

Method

Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds. Once they start spluttering add the peanuts and saute them till they become reddish and are crisp. Make sure they don’t get burnt. Add green chillies, curry leaves and onion.Saute till the onions turn golden brown. Mix in the peas and add water. Let it come to a boil. Now add the lemon juice and salt and give it a mix. Check the seasoning. Now add Rava slowly. Keep stirring while adding rava so that it does not form lumps. The mixture starts thickening. Cook for about 2 mins on low flame so that the rava gets cooked properly. Close the lid and let it settle for 5 mins. Serve hot with pickle or coconut chutney.

My Notes

ü  You can even add Urad dal and Chana dal for seasoning along with peanuts and fry them till they turn golden brown. I do not like it and hence I have avoided it here.

ü  I have tried adding Methi leaves also to Upma and it tastes great.

ü  The amount of oil, salt, and spice can be varied according to your taste and eating habits. This measurement works well for me and my family.
