Kadale Kaalu also known as chana is stir fried with some simple spices to make usali. This dish is supposed to be Lord Ganesha's favourite and that is one reason i made this dish on Ganesha chaturthi this time. It is served as prasada at most of the temples in Karnataka.

Ingredients

Black chickpeas/Chana – 1 cup (soaked overnight)
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
Curry leaves – 10
Green chillies – 2 - chopped
Onion – 1 – chopped
Lemon juice – of half a lemon
Coriander leaves – for garnishing
Fresh Grated coconut – 2 tbsp- optional (I skipped this)
Oil – 1 tbsp
Salt

Method

Boil the Chana with some salt and keep it aside. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. Once it starts spluttering, add curry leaves and green chillies. Add onion and saute till it turns golden brown. Add salt. But remember there is salt in the boiled Chana also so go easy on it. Add the boiled Chana and give it a mix. Add lemon juice and take it off the heat. Garnish it with coriander leaves. You can add grated coconut for extra taste at this stage.

My Notes

ü  You can add dry red chillies instead of green chillies.

ü  You can add fresh grated coconut for extra taste.
