Bread Dahi Vada

This is an instant replacement for the actual dahi vada. I had thought of this recipe long back and since then I wanted to try it and see how it would turn up. Finally today I made up my mind to give it a try as me n my hubby both were damn hungry. And olaaaa... it worked.

Ingredients

White Bread – 5 slices
Coriander leaves – 5 tbsp
Mint leaves – 1 tbsp
Green chilli – 2
Oil for frying
Thick Yogurt – 1 cup
Cumin powder – a pinch
Chat masala powder – a pinch
Red chilli powder – a generous pinch
Salt
Water as needed

Method

In a mixer add 3 tbsp coriander leaves (leave the rest for garnishing), mint leaves, green chillies and grind into a paste. Do not add water. It is okay if the paste is coarse.
Meanwhile dip each bread slice in some water and hold the bread slice in between your palms and squeeze out the water completely.Mix the bread and the above prepared green paste with some salt and make it into dough.

Heat oil enough for deep frying in a kadai. Take the bread dough little by little and make it into balls. Deep Fry it. Keep it aside. In a bowl whisk the yogurt into a creamy mixture. Add salt, cumin powder, chat masala powder and give it a mix.

Now place the bread balls in serving dish. Pour the yogurt mixture over it. Garnish it with coriander leaves and red chilli powder. Serve immediately.

My Notes

ü  Do not soak the bread for too long or it will become soggy. Just dip it and take It out and squeeze out the water immediately

ü  You can add some grated carrot and chopped onion for garnishing. I was in a hurry and so I skipped it.

ü  You can also add date-tamarind chutney over it to enhance the taste.
