Karnataka cuisine is incomplete without non-veg items from Coorg. This mutton curry comes from the land of coffee and cardamom COORG. It is a very flavorful curry and is excellent with steamed rice.
Ingredients
Mutton – ½ kg
Oil – 4 tbsp
Onion – 1 medium - sliced
Tomato – 1 large - chopped
Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
Red chili powder – 2 tsp
Salt
Lemon juice – 1 tbsp
Water as needed
For Masala Paste
Coconut – scrapped – ½ cup
Fresh coriander leaves – 1 med bunch
Coriander seeds – 1 tbsp
Poppy seeds – 1 tbsp
Cloves – 5
Cinnamon – 1 inch
Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
Method
Grind all the ingredients under ‘For Masala Paste’
with some water into a fine paste. Keep it aside.
Heat oil in a pressure pan. Add Onion and saute
till it turns pink. Add mutton pieces and saute till water from the meat
reduces. Add tomato and saute till oil separates. Add the masala paste and
saute till the raw smell goes. Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder and salt.
Add water and lemon juice. Check for seasoning and cover the pan and cook till mutton
is done. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot.
